It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Yes, that’s right – it’s Albany Pride Festival!
Now, we know what you’re thinking: what happened to Albany Pride 2020? Well, we all took the decision to start hosting our Pride Festival celebrations in February, rather than November. Not only did this avoid conflicts with the Pride Festival in Perth (for which many regional WA folk do travel for), but it allowed us to have our festival shortly after the closing of the Perth Fringe Festival – for which we are very excited to bring three shows down here for.
We like to think we’re pretty amazing here at Albany Pride(!), but even we have our limits – we couldn’t organise two Pride festivals within the space of a few months! It just so happened that the globe was also overtaken by a certain pandemic, and it is our hope that by the time Pride Festival 2021 takes place that we will be a little clearer about what that means for public events taking place in Western Australia.
We are in the process of planning and implementing our biggest and best Pride Festival yet – and we’re really excited to show you what we’ve got. Not only is it now taking place over TWO weeks and THREE weekends, but following the feedback given from previous Pride Festivals, we’re planning a much bigger variety of events: we want to be able to provide a Pride Festival that caters for everyone.
So dust off your dungarees, glad rags, heels and Pride Flags because we’re planning to give you a regional Pride Festival to be proud of.
Albany Pride is determined to be rural Western Australia’s premier Pride Festival, and no matter where you are, we want you to come down to Albany and see what our glorious little city has to offer: we may be able to boast some of WA’s most spectacular views, but we reckon we can also boast a fabulous Queer community that is looking forward to showing the state what we have to offer.
As always, we’d like to thank every single person who gets involved: whether it be our volunteers, those who attend our functions and events, or those who help spread the word. We love you all and couldn’t do it without you!
To find out more about our organisation, please visit our website – and then head on to our Lineup to see what we have in store! (And please note: this isn’t our final lineup – there’s still more to come!).
We can’t wait to see you!
